The paintings I will be showing combine both abstract gesture and deliberate design, balancing between impulsive and calculated mark makings. Oscillating between foreground and background, the pictorial dimensions of the image shift as the combinations of lines, shapes, and colours produce illusionary aspects within the picture plane. Undermining its own illusions through raw canvas, arbitrary framing, notes, drips, and lines, the works simultaneously invite illusionary depth, and balk at it.
